wireless network down for upgrades between 4-5 PM today (4/8/2014)

The district's wireless network will be down today for about 20 minutes sometime between 4:00 - 5:00 PM so that we can upgrade the wireless LAN controllers. You should plan to use a computer with a wired network connection during this time.

I apologize for the short notice.

RIP, osd and public wifi networks!

Tomorrow, the old, musty "osd" and "public" wireless networks will be disappear like a ghost in sunlight. The new networks will be OSD-BYOD and OSD-Guest. Log in to OSD-BYOD to get access to the most sites at the fastest speeds. OSD-Guest is for non-students and non-staff, so it's heavily filtered and throttled.

Wireless network outage today around 4:15 for upgrade

The district's wireless network will be unavailable briefly today while the software is upgraded and the controllers are rebooted. This outage will occur around 4:15 today, and should last no more than 10 minutes. However, as with all things technical, unforeseen errors could cause this outage to last longer.

Wifi outages during upgrade

Wireless network unavailable in spots
As we upgrade the network over the next two weeks, the wireless network will be unavailable in some areas of some buildings. The areas affected within each building may change daily as work progresses, so I can't give you exact locations or timeframes. Just consider this a general heads-up. The target completion date for all network upgrades is August 16.

Wireless network Captive Portal security certificate fixed

Users trying to log in to the public wireless network this morning got an error message saying the identity of the server could not be verified. The exact error message varied depending on the browser. Chrome and Firefox give you the option to override and continue, albeit with dire warnings about how somebody could be intercepting your traffic. (This was sure to get the attention of the paranoid, tinfoil-hat-wearing crowd.) Safari is apparently a bit more ardent about protecting us from ourselves, and did not provide the option to override. The result is that iPad users on the public network were not able to authenticate.

The actual cause of the warning was that the security certificate for the captive portal (the screen that pops up asking you to log in when you use the public network) had expired over the weekend. We have created and imported a new security certificate, so now devices on the public wireless network can log in normally.

Thanks for your patience, and I apologize for the interruption and inconvenience.
